New York Magazine's take on Hamilton and Washington Heights:

IN THE SOCIETY OF HEIGHTS!!!! Well first let me tell you about my view of Washington Heights from my own eyes and let me tell you its the place where people would come to start a new life or to start getting their life in order cause there's not a lot of people and its very quiet first of all but every where you go you will find some type of different of comfort meaning you will be most comfortable at Washington heights I guarantee it. I'm just speaking from experience but back to what the heights is really about, the heights is about everything you could passably think of like for instance a lot of historical facts and places that people can visit from all over the world. The park it self has the most amusing attractions as well as the different types of amusement The Heights have to offer. Just think a stroll in the Inwood Hill Park or how about we can go to Sugar Hill in Harlem and see all the beautiful homes people may have and the different attractions as well. Please don't forget about Morning Side Heights where people go to the Historical District to see all the old and famous records of people that pass by while coming to America as we know what is worth to the united States of America. We also have the most infamous Cathedral of Saint John Of Divine where music from around the world is played there as well as jazz and different classical music you might enjoy. The heights was first founded earlier in the 1900's maybe earlier like way earlier. Today the majority of the neighborhood's Population47206 Male Population 21949 (46.5 %) Female Population 25257 (53.5 %) Percent Change Since 19906.0 %Percent Change Since 2000-1.0 %Density (Persons per sq. mile) 80425.00 Median Age 34 to 81 but we all know it varies. According to the 2000 Census, WaHI had a population of 208,414 people, which represented an increase of 5.2% since the 1990 Census and 15.8% since the 1980 Census, so the community has been growing. The racial/ethnic breakdown is as follows: 74.1% Hispanic, 13.6% white (non-Hispanic), 8.4% black (non-Hispanic), and 2.1% Asian/Pacific Islander. The median household income was $28,865 in 1999 and $52,578 in 2002, which reflects the fact that WaHI is quickly becoming gentrified as increasing numbers of professionals with higher incomes seek affordable housing in our neighborhood. Washington Heights, said that many residents go to the neighborhood for "cheap housing," obtain jobs "downtown," receive a "good education," and "hopefully live good lives. Washington Heights doesn't seem that big but in all reality it is huge. Washington Heights is bounded to the south by 155th Street and to the north by Fairview Avenue and runs from the Harlem River on the east to the Hudson River on the west. Inwood is the tip of the island, everything lying north of Fairview Avenue. The two neighborhoods are often attach together as one because administratively they make up Manhattan Community District 12. Marble Hill is a section of Manhattan and is now physically connected to the Bronx. It was separated from the rest of Manhattan when the Harlem River Ship Canal was dug and the Spuyten Duyvil Creek was filled in.
